Was in the marina area. After a hike. We were craving Thai food. Found this cozy place on Lombard street. We order pad ke mao, Penang curry and tofu garlic stir fry. Food portions were good size. Food was very flavorful 5/5 Owner and staff were very friendly. 5/5. Restaurant was nice and clean.
Phat Thai, Lombard Street, SF Lombard Street is a parking lot disguised as a landmark. The fog was working overtime, curling around the bumpers of gridlocked tourists, and I needed a sanctuary. I pushed through the doors of Phat Thai, hoping to outrun the damp chill. The interior had the kind of deliberate, brooding shadow a guy can appreciate. Black walls, an exposed ceiling trapped behind a heavy wooden grid, and an industrial fan slowly chopping the air like a lethargic helicopter. The artwork—framed prints of Bangkok tuk-tuks and street food carts—stared back with the vibrant, mocking warmth of a city that doesn't need to wear a wool coat in May. The menus laid out the terms of engagement. I put in an order for the chicken yellow curry and the pad see ew with shrimp, bracing myself for whatever the kitchen was going to throw at me. The chicken yellow curry was a masterclass in deception. Refer to the evidence in the attached photos. It arrived as a placid, golden lagoon of coconut milk, carrots, and chicken, flanked by a highly disciplined mound of white rice. It tasted completely innocent for about three seconds, and then it hit you—a subtle note of spiciness. It was a quiet, simmering heat that didn’t kick the door down, but simply picked the lock and made itself at home. It was very good. The kind of curry you’d willingly confess your secrets to. Then came the pad see ew, sprawling across the plate like a beautiful, complicated mess. Broad, flat rice noodles tangled up with shrimp and Chinese broccoli. But whoever was working the wok must have had a score to settle, because the noodles were slightly burnt. Just a little too much char on the edges, like the dish had been roughed up in a back alley before being thrown onto the table. It gave the plate a smoky, cynical attitude—flawed, sure, but it still had legs. I’m giving it 4.5 stars. It’s a solid hideout where the yellow curry plays a flawless long game, even if the noodles spent a few seconds too long on the wrong side of the fire.
What a fantastic little place to eat! The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. The food is great! Lovely flavours and portions very generous. I had a great meal here and got some recommendations from the waiting staff on what to do with my short time in San Francisco. I’ll be back here again on a future visit.
Have an amazing time here with friends and family. The foods are delicious ~ mine friends were basically licking their dish clean. Service is 100/100 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly recommend Pad Thai, Calamari fry and the cheese cake.
