I have stayed at several Fairmont locations. I visited this one 20 years ago but I didn't stay, I just went to the Tonga room. It's really disappointing see this historic and beautiful Fairmont being operated as it is now. I was there over Christmas 2 years ago and stayed in one of the suites. There are some hospitality professionals working there, no doubt, the decor is a bit disjointed but of high-quality. The coffee shop, for example, absolutely gorgeous, and the main room where you get breakfast is stunning- though the lighting could be better. What struck me was that breakfast the next day in this restaurant, something about it made me feel like I was at a Vegas hotel. The room was beautiful, felt elegant, etcetera. The breakfast buffet was okay- not amazing, not bad. If I'm going to be spending a lot of money on a hotel and enjoying its historic qualities, I would like to take my time. But I felt as if I couldn't quite relax, the staff seemed stressed out, and there was a overall lack of warmth from everyone working there. The coldness from staff soured the experience, pulling me out of being able to enjoy where I was. After reading the dozens of reviews across the coffee shop, the restaurant, Tonga room, etcetera I really hope the board gets it together because it seems like morale is falling and at this price point, the offering is incongruent for the quality experience they are delivering. After many years of working in hospitality and customer service and the corporate world, these little things are always symptoms of bigger issues at the top trickling down. I don't blame the staff or middle management, I would look upwards add evaluate who's running things.
Went here for drinks at the bar and some bar food, also for breakfast the next day. The food was good, drinks were strong and good! Service was very friendly and welcoming!
We came to the Fairmont to check out the fabled gingerbread house and the new winter faire. While we were at it, we grabbed a few drinks from the Laurel Court so we had something to work through as we walked around the hotel. The drinks were good (I had the Beyond the Fog) and I look forward to trying everything they have. There was a bit of a wait as the hotel was absolutely packed! I don’t think I’ve seen a more crowded lobby - definitely felt like the holidays and cheer were truly upon us. Will have to come back later to try the holiday tea.
