Crab sandwiches and lobster sandwiches were good. Just don't expect them to be like a New England lobster roll. More like a crab salad sandwich. Matt at the register and who brought out the food was very hospitable and courteous. Thanks.
Absolutely amazing clam chowder and even better service! We stopped by on Pier 39 and had one of the best bowls of clam chowder we’ve ever had homemade dough freshly made every morning! Rich, creamy, flavorful, and perfect in the bread bowl. What really made the experience stand out was Mat. He was incredibly kind, welcoming, and made us feel genuinely appreciated as customers. It’s rare to come across service that friendly and authentic. If you’re visiting Pier 39, this spot is definitely worth stopping for. We’ll absolutely be back!
Disappointing, considering this was supposed to be one of the better crab sandwiches by pier. Main issue is the false advertisement, we paid for the more expensive Dungeness crab sandwich which is around $25 compared to the rock crab sandwich ($17-19). At first glance it looked like the sandwich was packed with fresh Dungeness crabmeat, but once I took a bite I realized that they literally put the Dungeness crab on top where it was visible but the inside was literally all rock crab & shrimp mix. If that was the expectation they should’ve made it clear, it’s deceptive and false advertisement. The flavors itself were alright and I prefer this butter roll more compared to the sourdough bread other stands offer, but that kind of deception is unacceptable.
Gardino’s at Fisherman’s Wharf is absolutely worth the stop. The New England clam chowder was fantastic—rich, creamy, and packed with flavor without being overly heavy. Exactly what you want when you’re in San Francisco. The Dungeness crab sandwich was on point. Fresh, well-seasoned, and generous portions—but just a heads up, it’s mixed with lump crab meat rather than being purely Dungeness. Still tasted great, just something to be aware of if you’re expecting all local crab. Overall, solid spot for classic Wharf seafood. I’d definitely come back.
Excellent clam chowder at a decent price. The service area is fairly unassuming and wasn’t busy on a weekday afternoon. The lobster roll was just ok. It looked to be mostly crab underneath, was a little bland, and didn’t taste particularly fresh. The clam chowder was definitely the star of the show.
