If you're looking for an authentic Italian restaurant in San Fran, look no further. We are from the East coast and have the best Italian restaurants here and Bocconcino would fit right in here in Boston's North End. The GNOCCHI AL GORGONZOLA was phenomenal (Homade gnocchi). We also had the POLLO ALLA PARMIGIANO, MELANZANE ALLA PARMIGIANA and the SPAGHETTI CIPOLLA E SALSICCIA which were all outstanding. We did have a reservation and were sat right away, but did see people get turned away if they didn't as the restaurant is small inside.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have a great experience here. The restaurant looks charming from the outside, but inside it was extremely loud—we could barely hear each other and had to raise our voices throughout dinner. Even though we had a reservation, we were asked to wait outside, and the service felt inattentive. We had to ask for everything ourselves, including the menu. We also ordered a salad to share, but it was served first and our pasta didn’t arrive until we had finished it. We would have preferred to enjoy the salad together with our main course rather than as a separate course. The food was just okay. Having been to Italy, we expected more from a restaurant promoting itself as authentic Italian. The pasta was quite basic, and the tiramisu tasted more like cake than a traditional tiramisu. The house wine was excellent, and one waiter kindly offered me a complimentary glass after noticing we weren’t fully satisfied, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to make up for the overall experience.
I have no idea how many restaurants you can pack into such a short stretch of roadway but this part of Green Street sure has plenty of options, and today's top choice is..Bocconcini. I had big Mable Hatley with me because she's in town from her compound up in Monte Rio with her crew, The Monte Rio Muffin Mashers, and they plan on hitting every LBG joint in the city, so be forewarned because they don't take prisoners! I had ordered a few things, but the pasta dish was deliciously amazing! 5 ☆☆☆☆☆'s and that by itself is worthy of a trip across the bridge!
I cannot rate this place highly enough. I was craving cacio e pepe and feeling a bit homesick, and even though it wasn’t on the menu tonight, the owner offered to make it for me himself. The best I’ve had since Europe. Truly an authentic Italian experience — come here if you want to know what it means to feel the love of food. Will come back anytime I’m in town. Gratzie
The restaurant had a nice atmosphere for dinner although it could get a bit loud at times. I had the Ravioli de Pesce which was very good and had a nice flavor, and I could actually taste the fish. The Ravioli de Pesto and the Tortelini were good but nothing special. The tiramisu was good but a little bland, however the chocolate cake was executed to perfection!
