The food and the atmosphere were both fine. The oysters were a little small for what they cost. This review is primarily because we were treated like second-class patrons. I made a reservation several days ago for 5 people. They took us upstairs, to a balcony area that was very hot, but they sat us at a pretty large table overlooking the rest of the restaurant where we could at least get some air. Once we got waters, however, the hostess came up to our table and asked us to move to a smaller table further back into the stuffy upstairs because there was a “mix up” with the reservations and they had to give our table to a “priority” party who had just added two more people to their reservation. We were pretty bummed to be kicked out of our table but we, of course, moved. Since it was super stuffy up there in the back where we were moved and my 72 year old mother has breathing problems, which the stuffiness exacerbated, I asked if they could keep an eye out on a downstairs table for us to move to if one opened up. The host who asked us to move said she would definitely keep an eye out, but she of course never came back. When I told our server about the issue, she said it was unlikely because there was a “hierarchy” of reservations for the tables downstairs. Then, the table we were moved out of for the “priority” reservation stayed empty for the next hour. Then, a party the exact same size as ours was seated at it. We told our server that while we understood the place was busy and it was not her fault, the whole thing made us feel like second-class patrons, and she made sure we knew she was very sympathetic. If we hadn’t been treated that way, we probably would have stayed longer and ordered more than happy hour bites, but after that experience, we decided to go somewhere else down the street instead.
The food at Bar Crudo was excellent. We ordered the thick cut spaghetti with little neck clams, which was a generous portion and full of flavor. The trout crudo was outstanding, and while the oysters were very fresh, they felt a bit overpriced. Overall, we left impressed with the quality of the food. That said, for a restaurant at this price point, the overall experience didn’t quite match the meal. The service was friendly but fairly informal. More noticeably, the front door was left open throughout our dinner on a cool, windy evening. The thin curtain did little to keep the cold out, and many diners kept their jackets on. The food alone is worth a visit, but a bit more attention to the overall dining experience would better justify the premium prices.
Four of us went there for happy hour oysters, muscles, tacos, and seafood chowder. The oysters really could use some more options for flavourings and vinaigrettes. I am from the East Coast and oysters usually come with a tray of different options for toppings. The oysters and mussels here came with a vinaigrette and a very, very mild tomato cocktail sauce, it needed something else.
We made a spontaneous last-minute booking at Bar Crudo on a Saturday evening and were so glad we did. They had an amazing happy hour on both food and drinks, which was a great bonus. We ordered pretty much everything on the menu and were happily surprised by the quality of the food, everything was fresh, well executed, and delicious. They also have an excellent wine selection. The place itself was lively and trendy, with a great atmosphere
Made a rezo for 2 at 8pm on a Thurs and did the happy hour oysters (all you can eat for $36 with purchase of a bottle of wine). Unfortunately, we didn’t get our oysters or any food until an hour after we ordered, when the happy hour was ending 🤔 fortunately they let us order another round of oysters anyways. The oysters were some of the smallest I’ve had. The pasta dish was not bad, but not mind-blowing. The vibe of the place is great though, feels rustic and romantic
