It's my favorite restaurant in SF with creative pescetarian menu available. We come back here to celebrate every meaningful event or just for fun. It's not just a dinner, but more of a performance where food is more like art. You come here to try something you could have never imagined and would never be able to cook at home. I've tried several Michelin star restaurants in SF, but none of them came close to Anomaly. They are not just trying to surprise you with weird combinations of ingredients, but it actually tastes great. I appreciate that they are constantly making improvements to their menu, drink selection and seating arrangement.
From the moment we walked in, the experience felt truly first class. We were welcomed with complimentary champagne that was so good I happily stuck with it throughout the evening. It immediately set a refined and elegant tone. Sitting directly in front of the open kitchen was an incredible part of the experience. Watching the team work with such focus and precision made the evening feel immersive and intentional. It gave a real appreciation for the craft behind each dish. The food was outstanding from start to finish. Each plate was beautifully presented and layered with flavor. Every bite was mouthwatering and thoughtfully composed. The seafood in particular was exceptional and among the best I have had in one sitting. The rockfish was incredible, the crab dish was pure indulgence, and the short rib was rich and deeply satisfying. We genuinely could not choose a favorite because every dish delivered. Not a single crumb was left behind. They were also incredibly thoughtful in accommodating my husband’s dietary needs. We reached out ahead of time, and the team followed up to personally confirm everything, which we truly appreciated. The substitutions were just as intentional and beautifully executed as the original dishes and never felt like an afterthought. Everything was handled with care, professionalism, and ease. A special recognition to Mike Lanham. His leadership and vision clearly shine through this new menu. You can feel the dedication of the entire team and the care that went into developing each dish. Dessert was equally memorable. Compliments to Lauren Doggett for a new dessert that was absolutely divine and the perfect ending to the meal. The service throughout the evening was excellent. Every staff member was knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely engaged, taking the time to explain each dish with care and intention. This is Michelin-level dining in its execution, attention to detail, and overall experience. We left already looking forward to our next visit and cannot wait to return.
I recently celebrated my birthday at Anomaly SF and was welcomed with a glass of champagne upon seating, which was a thoughtful touch. The food was creative and well-executed, though some dishes felt a bit rich for my personal taste. The sommelier was excellent—friendly, patient, and knowledgeable—and took the time to explain each wine pairing in detail, which I really appreciated. The restaurant was quite busy that evening, and the service felt slightly under-paced. The overall atmosphere leaned on the quieter, more subdued side, which softened the sense of occasion for a birthday celebration. The space is modest, with a small open kitchen to watch the chefs at work. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and works well for a regular date night. For a more festive or celebratory atmosphere, you may want to explore other options.
Amazing restaurant! My girlfriend and I went for her birthday and had a great time! They play with different temperatures in their food, which was fun to experience and set them apart from a lot of other tasting menus ive experienced. Lots of great innovative and creative dishes. The only reason I gave it 4/5 in terms of food was because we both felt the final main dish was somewhat lacking, especially compared to all the flavors that came beforehand. This place is definitely michelin star worthy, though, and I imagine they'll achieve that soon.
I decided to celebrate my birthday at Anomaly this time and it was a wonderful experience. The food was top notch with so many interesting flavors. The presentation, the ambience and friendly service made this a very memorable evening for me. They were also super accommodative of my dietary restrictions and thoughtfully prepared a substitute which turned out to be my favorite dish of the experience!!! I was lucky to be seated near the kitchen and I could watch the chef's whip up their creations. I was also impressed by how the Head Chef took time to actually serve dishes and talk to everyone in the room. Usually fine dining places leave me a little stuffed but I didn't feel that way with Anomaly. The portions were perfectly sized and I came out feeling satiated without feeling stuffed. I am looking forward to coming back again when they change their menu and would highly recommend them to anyone who wants to try out SF fine dining. This experience should not be missed!!!
