San Francisco Integrative Massage, located at 1844 Market St, Studio 2, offers a unique approach to pain relief and functional movement. This venue provides therapeutic services designed to address chronic pain and dysfunction through innovative and hands-on techniques. The practitioners here specialize in various cutting-edge therapies, including Active Release Techniques® (ART®), Proprioceptive Deep Tendon Reflex® (P-DTR®), and Anatomy in Motion™ (AiM™). Each method focuses on different aspects of body mechanics and functionality, aiming to alleviate pain and improve overall well-being.

Active Release Techniques® is a specialized touch therapy that assesses and treats soft-tissue injuries, targeting muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves. Practitioners of ART® work towards restoring normal function and reducing pain by directly engaging with the affected soft tissues.

Proprioceptive Deep Tendon Reflex® is a revolutionary approach addressing the body's proprioceptive system. This technique involves gentle manual muscle tests to identify dysfunctions within muscles and related soft tissues. P-DTR® practitioners focus on the body's internal processes to understand how these contribute to chronic pain and dysfunction.

Anatomy in Motion™ explores the body’s movement throughout the gait cycle to identify and correct imbalances. This therapy takes a comprehensive approach, examining joint functionality and the body's overall movement patterns. AiM™ aims to retrain the body's gait to promote efficient movement and reduce discomfort.

San Francisco Integrative Massage is a practical choice for those seeking relief from chronic pain and enhanced functional movement through targeted therapies. Each service is tailored to address individual needs, promoting greater health and wellness without relying on quick fixes or temporary solutions.

I’ve had debilitating pain in my neck, shoulder and radiating numbness down my arm for 12 years, all stemming from a chronic neck injury, and it was just getting worse. I also had hip pain on the same side. I go to the best doctor at UCSF and have the best PT in SF. I had an episode where I could barely walk and my PT couldn’t see me for a month so by the grace of God I found Carl. I saw him, showed him me MRI and he worked on me for 15 minutes. Since that day, the debilitating pain is gone and has not come back. I have more energy and sleep better. There is still some low lever pain around my neck and hip that I’m still seeing him for but the crippling pain that I experienced ever day is gone. I highly recommend everyone go see him. Seeing Carl has been life changing. I’m so grateful to him.

Carl is my teacher for PDTR and he is also my therapist. As a physiotherapist who has many advance training and as a patients received treatments from many practitioners, he is the rare few who is very knowledgeable about neurology, anatomy and physiology, as well as extremely skillful in hands-on treatment. In particular, his visual diagnostic skill is extraordinary, therefore his treatment is spot on and expeditious. Furthermore, he is a very sensitive and empathetic individuals. So his patients receive not only treatment of physical dysfunctions, but also receive tremendous mental comfort and support required for healing. My leg strength had improved within one session and able to walk all around the city for hours after! Amazing! I respect him as my therapist but even more as my teacher. I think all physiotherapists should take PDTR from him and become a great therapist like him to help our patients.

As a practitioner, Carl has an incredible ability to identify where the body may be receiving faulty signals and apply his knowledge in a way that creates meaningful change. He combines strong clinical skill with an intuitive understanding of what to look for. Carl worked with me on chronic lower back pain that had started limiting my exercise and daily activities. He traced the issue back to an old surgical scar in my abdomen, and I noticed a significant difference in my flexibility, strength, and pain levels immediately after treatment. I’m incredibly grateful to be able to return to activities I had previously given up because of pain. If you have the opportunity to work with Carl as a client or a student, I highly recommend it. P-DTR isn’t only about addressing pain — it can also help improve how your body functions, moves, and performs. You don’t have to wait until something hurts to benefit from working with someone who understands how to help your nervous system and body work together more effectively.

A friend of mine who also plays tennis and is in their late 30's / early 40's recommended Carl as a gifted PT to me a couple years ago. I started seeing Carl a year ago on a semi-regular basis for PT related to 2 achilles rupture / repairs that have affected my knees, and I also see him for "tech neck" and strain / tendonitis in my arm and hand from playing tennis regularly (3-5x a week). As others have reviewed, he is very versatile and really assesses your end-to-end issues and what is at the root of your pain or issue. He has a healer's touch, and my body always feels better after receiving a treatment from Carl. Furthermore, he's the most professional and punctual PT I have ever gone to. Lastly, he is a good person and easy to talk to. Run, don't walk (ok be careful though) to see him if you need PT !

I have had a great experience with Carl at SF Integrative Massage. I had several chronic injuries which had plagued me for over a decade (hip pain, shin splints/stress fracture, general tension) which Carl was able to resolve in a matter of months. He does a great job of both listening to you every time to understand your body as a system, and is exceptional at what he does. I've never been somewhere else where I feel a noticeable, lasting improvement after each session. I highly recommend Carl!
