Reviews
Clearly the best restaurant I set a foot in. Chef Crenn clearly made her storytelling through her proposed menu. I rarely saw this amount of emotion shared to customers. As soon as you get into the restaurant, you start an incredible experience while being in a Japandi Styled decor which let us know that she travelled a lot (all the way to the bathroom which had the Japanese toilet options). Most importantly, the food. It started with a small word from the chef, with a poem that shared a bit more about her perspective of life. I was stunned by the level of detail put into all the plates. None were less good than others. The challenge for me there was that I do not eat seafood usually for personal preferences. And I loved all the plates !!! (For those who do not know, the restaurant is pescatarian) Her attention to the smallest details was noticed. Each plate had a story, it felt like a small escapade into her life. Even the bread which was her grandmother’s recipe ! As a French person myself, I must say I recognised Bretagne throughout her plates. The plate designing is also an unforgettable part of this experience. Going onto the drinks, I took the N/A beverage pairing which was a marvellous option. I discovered multiple N/A drinks which could also be good to have in my personal lifestyle, but above all, the mocktails creations were all unique and extremely creative. All the beverages were perfect matches. To continue, the service was speechless. We had a French speaking waiter, who sometimes alternated with his colleagues (I loved the try of one of them to speak French). The storytelling was perfect and very immersive. If you are searching for a basic restaurant, please note that it isn’t just a restaurant. It is an entire experience. Whether you are with a partner, a friend, family, or even alone, it is the perfect place to live an unforgettable experience of immersing yourself into the chef’s life, but also of travelling to the places in which she grew up. I highly recommend.
Retrospective Audit: March 2021 (Indoor Reopening) This dinner was a huge milestone early in my fine dining journey, back when I was just starting to seriously map out and benchmark Michelin-starred restaurants. Scoring a reservation for two right when the tables dropped felt like a massive win, but the real shock was the timing. Thanks to a tiny, brief window where San Francisco allowed limited indoor dining, we actually got to sit inside the main dining room instead of out on a sidewalk parklet. Eating inside at that specific moment in 2021 was a trip. The exact protocols from five years ago are a bit fuzzy now—I’m pretty sure we had to mask up every time the staff approached the table between courses—but what stuck with me was how flawlessly the team handled it. Whatever rules the city threw at restaurants back then, Crenn’s team executed them to the letter without letting the compliance ruin the rhythm of a high-end meal. The dining room itself is beautiful—sleek, clean, and incredibly polished. What keeps it from feeling cold or overly corporate are the personal touches from Chef Crenn scattered everywhere, especially her own paintings hanging on the walls. Since it’s been years, I honestly don't remember the exact details of every single dish on the menu, but a few core visual and technical highlights have stayed completely vivid. Her signature Kir Breton sphere—that white globe with the liquid core that you have to pop in one bite off a little wooden pedestal—was a flawless start. I also remember the tableside theater of dense smoke trapped under a glass cloche, and a fantastic, hyper-crisp dark disk that hid the ingredients underneath it, balancing perfectly against a rich cream base. Even looking back through the lens of all the stars I've tracked since, this visit proved exactly why Atelier Crenn holds a permanent spot at the apex of three-star hospitality. They delivered a flawless, precise experience inside a room operating under some of the toughest constraints the industry has ever seen.
Impeccable dining experience at one of the best Michelin-starred restaurants in the world. The entire experience from check-in to meeting the chefs in the kitchen at the end of the meal was perfectly orchestrated, and all of the dishes were exquisitely presented and immaculately prepared. So many wonderful flavors, and so many incredible details. Great wine menu. Highly recommend it!! Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Several parking lots with a 5-10 minute walk.
My wife and I had an exceptional dining experience tonight. The service was, of course, excellent and what you would expect of such a restaurant with this reputation. The food tonight was absolutely stellar. The pescatarian dishes were some of the best I’ve ever had, but it was the sauces that stood out. Simply divine!
What an amazing experience! We were even fortunate enough to have gone on a night when there was a collaboration with Chef Viki. The ambiance was warm and welcoming. Service was impeccable and in keeping with the standards of a 3 star restaurant. The food was incredible. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared and reflected the creativity and passion of the chef. It was more than just a meal, it was a culinary journey. Chef Viki came table-side during service to introduce the dishes and finish them. Chef Crenn greeted guests and even took a photo with us. The whole experience from beginning to end was unforgettable! We look forward to going back again to try Chef Crenn’s full menu!
