Dimly lit bar with a low-key, chill vibe. Would definitely go back for the atmosphere. Cash only!
Bruno. I lived around the corner in the early 90s. Burner, of course, has passed since then. Famous Bruno sayings… The tables are closed. Why would you have a martini after dinner? Leave. Or he would just completely ignore you. It was fun to bring people in there and not tell them about Bruno. Bruno was always in charge. We never knew how it was gonna go. I was lucky enough to be able to stay quite a few times. And of course, have martinis. But that usually depended who I was with. Or just, what day it was. It was always an adventure. I’m looking forward to revisiting, from the reviews, it sounds like the latest bartender might share some of Bruno‘s idiosyncrasies.
Usually never leave North Beach when I’m in SF, but will always make an exception to get over to the Haight for Zam Zam. Nice to drink in bars that have dome history and style. Not a whole lot left anymore
Zam Zam is an absolute gem on Haight Street. The decor is gorgeous - richly eclectic and full of character. It has that perfectly worn-in charm that makes the place feel authentic and timeless rather than polished and generic. Every detail adds to the vibe. The bartender was friendly and welcoming. You can tell this is the kind of bar that people come back to again and again. Great drinks, warm energy, and one of the most unique interiors in the city. A true SF classic.
