This place is at the corner of Bush and Mason. Street parking is kind of hard in this area. It's a pretty small bar but surprisingly it wasn't full when the World cup game already started. It has a projector for the game which is a good idea. The IPA selection is solid for a bar this size. There's no food menu at this place.
Love this local pub!! Lanie—one of San Francisco’s BEST bartenders—is what brought us to this excellent bar. She wasn’t there when we visited but one of the owners—Dan—was a great alternative! Knowledgeable, friendly, great tips! He also told us about other really interesting bars under the same ownership. We’d go far more often if it was near our route!
We really enjoyed my visit to The Summer Place. It’s the kind of neighborhood cocktail bar that feels welcoming the moment you walk in. While there were TVs showing soccer, the atmosphere never felt like a loud sports bar—it stayed relaxed and conversation-friendly. The cocktail menu had some creative options. We ordered the 1001 and the Smoked Old Fashioned, and both were well balanced. The smoked Old Fashioned delivered the classic bourbon profile with just enough smoke to complement rather than overpower the drink. The 1001 was bright, citrus-forward, and a refreshing contrast. The back bar is impressive, with an extensive whiskey selection that should keep bourbon and rye fans happy. Service was friendly and attentive without hovering, and the bartenders clearly take pride in what they’re pouring. If you’re staying around Union Square or Nob Hill and want a quality cocktail without the crowds or pretentious vibe, this is an easy recommendation. Happy hour runs weekdays from 3–7 PM, and the bar is open late every day.
The Summer Place is a great local bar filled with awesome people. The bartenders are some of the best people you'll ever meet. It's a hub for the neighborhood to connect with each other and catch up in an age where socially gathering seems to be a dying tradition. It's absolutely a safe and fun place for everyone. I've been coming to this bar since it has opened, as have a ton of my friends and fellow neighbors... A bunch I've actually met here. It's always a good time and a happy experience. I'm writing this review in response to a previous one. I was a witness to the slapping incident that occurred. It was completely uncalled for and was perpetrated by an unstable individual who was correctly banned from the bar due to being unable to control their violent impulses and excessively erratic behavior. That is simply not something tolerated by anyone at this bar. There have been rumors that that review was her speaking in third person about herself, and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if it were true. I've met her and she seems a bit troubled. Stage five clinger incapable of mature emotion comes to mind. It's ok to be rejected. It's not ok to slander an individual and extend that to a business because you can't handle rejection. It hurts true victims and their credibility when they do come forward. As someone who has experienced sexual harassment, once being in this bar, the staff handled it professionally and perfectly. That is not tolerated either in this establishment and they have my respect for that. I'm only sorry for this one individual who took it upon herself to spread lies because she's upset she was rightfully banned. So speaking as a woman, absolutely yes, The Summer Place is a safe space for women. It always has been for the years I've been coming here and I have zero doubt that that will continue. This is a great neighborhood establishment, that not only cared about its regulars but the people who pour in from out of town or simply walking by looking for a place of refuge. I would hate to see its good name slandered due to the misguided hate of one singular individual.
A lovely place - great dirty martini. Everyone that walked in was there for the bartender working there (they were fantastic). It quickly filled in without feeling crowded. A cozy atmosphere, great cocktails and beer and lovely people. You really can't go wrong.
