I discovered L’Ardoise Bistro years ago on a crisp December evening. As I approached, the lighted tree in the window caught the part of me that loves a little romance, intimacy, storybook charm, and the kind of magic that happens when a space makes you feel both transported and completely at home. It has been more than a favorite restaurant ever since. Dinner at L’Ardoise is one of the best ways I know to show buyer clients what living in Duboce Triangle can feel like, because words only get you so far. The restaurant somehow brings together everything I love about the neighborhood: intimacy, warmth, lack of pretension, quiet sophistication, and, especially in December, enchantment. I often bring fellow real estate agents to L’Ardoise for dinner because there’s something fitting about discussing business inside a place that demonstrates what doing good business looks like. There are no declarations about service or hospitality on the wall. They just do it, consistently, through the food, the pacing, the atmosphere, and the way the entire experience holds together. The kitchen’s execution is flawless every time. The coq au vin is deeply savory, wine-rich, and comforting, with the kind of depth that comes from patient, slow cooking; the Tiger prawn ravioli is decadent without being heavy; and the caramelized Apple Tarte Tatin is the perfect finish. L’Ardoise is so special to me that I take myself there for dinner every year on my birthday. It captures something timeless and soulful about San Francisco that is increasingly hard to manufacture and impossible to fake.
Absolutely my favorite French bistro in San Francisco. Small, intimate, charming, unpretentious, spectacular food and wine, and located in a quiet, safe, sweet neighborhood near the Castro District. We’ve been going here for 20 years and it has always been consistently awesome. ALWAYS. Tigger shrimp ravioli is unforgettable. Rabbit ravioli is occasionally on the menu, as well, and is also delicious for a starter. Entrees are all excellent- portions are good. Great date place- a bit of a hideout.
Absolutely fantastic experience! This was one of the best French restaurants I’ve been to. Every dish was outstanding from the soup and salad to the perfectly cooked steak and creamy risotto. We also ordered the chef’s special of the day, a puff pastry filled with lobster and shrimp, based on our waiter’s recommendation, and it was incredible. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and beautifully prepared. The service was exceptional as well. Our waiter was attentive, knowledgeable, and his recommendation ended up being the highlight of the meal. The restaurant itself has a beautiful atmosphere that’s elegant yet comfortable, making it a perfect spot for a date night. One piece of advice: definitely make a reservation before you go, as it’s a popular place. Highly recommended, and I’ll certainly be coming back!
Located in Noe Valley/ SF corner of Henry and Noe St. Alex was our server. What we ordered: 1.) Lobster Vol Au Vent $24.00 a puffed pastry filled with lobster bits. While the taste was good, but my husband said there was barely any lobster 🦞 2.) Salmon Tartare 18.00 this was fresh light and balanced in flavors and ingredients. 3.) Duck Confit $38.00 unfortunately the Duck was a bit dry and the leg lacked meat. Disappointed because this one f their signature dishes. I know there are loyal clients that eat here on the regular, but we were not wowed so we will not be back.
L'Ardoise has everything I love about a San Francisco restaurant. Quaint, cozy ambience, fantastic service, excellent food, local neighborhood spot. Doesn't get much better. We ordered the butternut squash soup, the goat cheese salad, coq au vin, mushroom and parmesan risotto, and the apple tart dessert. Everything was chefs kiss, 10 out of 10. Can't wait to go back for another date night soon.
