Overall good. Location is amazing that's for sure. Rooms are very clean and decently sized. Thing to know: This is a 100% digital hotel meaning no roomkey, it's on the phone, and it's 100% without staff, meaning you checkin and checkout alone. You can call or text staff in case of problems. Improvement suggestion: having a physical key, I mean, digital is fun but I had to redownload my key randomly which delayed my room opening whereas I could have just entered with a normal key. And what if you lose your phone or it dies? You don't have a key anymore. So yes I suggest bringing back physical keys. Another thing, I think it would be nice to put signs to advise guests to mind the noise levels at night because the rooms have poor isolation. For example I was woken up by someone shouting on the phone at 2 am in the corridor (because he had problems with his roomkey), and again at 5 am. With these 2 improvements I think it would be 5/5 stars.
It is a three star hotel. Cute decorating! Couple of guests had v. difficult time getting the App-based check-in experience to work. Pics of stairs, lobby, and 2nd floor corner room. Housekeeper is there all day, tending to guests and upkeep. In fact it is a call center you will be dealing with for all else. Bring patience, ear plugs, eye shades, and your Charging plug - no USB, C etc outlets. No AC. Fan was dusty, didn’t use. Bed fine, pillows medium firm with chopped foam. A communal standard fridge (below main floor). Street cleaning trucks come and go in the AM. Therefore be mindful of where you park at 2am per the signs. Guests were all great. It is quaint setting, gives an idea of what it would be like to live in this historic nborhood.
My husband & I stayed at WSI for 5 nights. We were looking for somewhere to stay that was in a good area, safe, clean and affordable. WSI was in a great location, walking distance to fisherman’s warf, Chinatown, coit tower etc. Our room was small, but we only needed a place to sleep and keep our things and the room did just that. I was contacted about 4 days before check in via text. I downloaded “OpenKey” app ahead of time and they text me with instructions for the key info. Everything went smoothly, we arrived at WSI at 12:30am and no problems getting in. The hotel door keypad code was emailed and the room key is on the open key app. I had lots of anxiety about arriving in the middle of the night and the key not working but I had my info ready at 3pm (SF time) via text from the hotel. They even replied promptly when I text them back. The hotel could invest in a cordless vacuum (shark/dyson) for the very nice cleaning person(s) to do the floors and under the bed as I had to plug something in to an extension cord under the bed and it was quite dusty and off putting. Otherwise, everything was smooth. Overall, It’s a good area, it’s loud (you’re in a city..) but if you’re here for a short trip it’s perfect. If you’re able to understand instructions then staying at this “contactless” hotel is easy and safe. I would stay here again.
The location of this hotel is amazing. We could walk to the piers, Chinatown, and were right near some amazing Italian restaurants. The room was fine, and had everything we needed. But the digital key app did not work for us, even though I filled out all the online forms well in advance. They send a lot of emails with very clear instructions, which I followed exactly, so I'm not sure what went wrong. Since there's no staff, we did have some trouble accessing our room which was hard as we had been driving for a long time and were eager to rest and use the restroom. There were piles of bagged garbage in the front entry, and someone was sitting or sleeping in front of the door at times, and not always willing to move.
