San Remo Hotel
San Francisco

What a charming little slice of old San Francisco in the heart of North Beach. You can't beat this price for the location. I love all the old posters and decor. Definitely a quirky place with a lot of personality. The shared bathrooms were totally fine. I see they are doing some renovations, which are definitely needed. I just hope and pray they do not strip away the charm that makes this place so special. If the owners are reading this, I beg you to keep the decor funky and maintain all those historical touches...and please keep the prices reasonable. It's so hard to find affordable places in big cities these days, and especially for a solo traveler, it's nice to find places that won't bankrupt you if you want to spend several days in the city. Some changes are absolutely necessary (the windows are extremely thin so the outside noise is an issue), but let's not go too far and make this place stale and cookie cutter. Thank you!
LOCATION IS AMAZING FOR FISHERMAN'S WHARF!!!! Me and my boyfriend stayed here for three nights during the week and we really liked it! First off if you have kids or cant do stairs this is not the hotel for you. We did the private bathroom room ( room 31) and I am so glad we did. Definitely highly suggest going that route. Only reason I gave the room 4 stars is because the shower door was not put on correctly so if you didnt pull it up and into the shower water would literally be all over the floor but once we figured that out it was fine. Theres a small dresser type thing next to the sink and the lamp on it was wayyyy to big and falling apart so we didnt feel comfortable using it. the acutal room was clean and the bedding was very clean and I checked it really well. They ARE remodeling a bunch of rooms right now but we were never there during the day so cant say if it was noisey. We were directly above the kitchen so early morning you could hear some pans and dishes being moved around but not really an issue for us, we wanted to be up early and see everything we could. We didnt hear anyone else staying as far as noise which was a plus. LOCATION IS AMAZING FOR FISHERMAN'S WHARF!!!!!! we felt safe even coming back to our room at 11 at night. It is sooo close to so much! Theres a mexican restaurant on the corner that was pretty good. A trader joes on the next block down. A mini mart ( the cheapest we found there) going the opposite way of fishermans wharf from the hotel. Avoid the 711 close to fisherman's wharf on the walk there from the hotel. Insanely expensive and very sketchy. I didnt even wanna use my card there its that sketchy. For the price its 10/10!!! I would definitely stay here again. We walked 33 miles in 3 days but again we wanted to see as much as possible and really experience this part of San fran.
I stayed at San Remo Hotel for a couple of nights and had a pretty pleasant experience overall. The place has an old-fashioned charm that you don’t usually get with modern hotels. The rooms are small and simple, but they felt clean and cozy enough for what I needed. Just keep in mind that bathrooms are shared, which might not be for everyone. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially when I had a few questions about getting around the area. The location is probably one of the best things about the hotel—it’s within walking distance of Fisherman’s Wharf and a few good places to eat, so it made exploring easy. One thing I noticed is that the walls are a bit thin, so you might hear some noise from other guests or the hallway. It wasn’t a huge issue for me, but it’s something to be aware of if you’re a light sleeper. Overall, it’s a good option if you’re looking for something affordable and don’t mind a more old-school setup. It’s not luxury, but it has character and does the job.
My stay at San Remo Hotel in San Francisco was truly incredible. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this place is something special. The hotel has so much character and charm; it feels completely unique compared to anywhere else I’ve stayed, and it made the entire experience feel memorable in the best way. We stayed in the Penthouse Suite, and it completely exceeded expectations. Having a private rooftop terrace to ourselves, with sweeping views of the city skyline, was unreal. It felt like our own hidden escape above San Francisco; quiet, private, and honestly kind of dreamlike. It’s such a rare experience to find something that feels that personal in the middle of a busy city. What really stood out, though, was the level of hospitality. Chirag, the manager, went above and beyond to take care of us throughout our stay. He was incredibly welcoming, attentive, and professional, and made sure everything was perfect from start to finish. That kind of genuine care makes a lasting impression, and it did for us. I would absolutely recommend San Remo Hotel to anyone visiting San Francisco, especially if you’re considering the Penthouse Suite. It’s not just a place to stay; it’s an experience that genuinely adds something special to your trip.
