Casa Loma Hotel
San Francisco

I rented a room here for me and my husband for about 5 nights. I found our stay disappointing. Although the location is good, and the price affordable, you get what you pay for. I’m usually not too picky on rooms, but our room 212 was cramped and small. They did not give us storage spaces, closets, or any way to hold luggage, so our room very quickly became messy. The window did not have a screen on it, so mosquitoes came in at night. There was also no AC, hence the open windows. Our bathroom sink was tiny and sloshed water everywhere and our blinds were cheap and broken. We had a friend stay at this hotel as well, and his room was much nicer. From what we could see of others, we must have gotten one of the rooms on the worse end but there was no way to tell online which room we were booking in advance. The first day, the room also smelled very strongly, to the point that I almost debated trying for a refund and staying elsewhere. The smell went away over time, (maybe we just became acclimated to it), but the smell, cramped nature of the hotel, lack of decoration, made it come off as very dingy and a little depressing.
I stayed for a week while my building was being renovated. The location is absolutely amazing. It's a block away from Alamo Square park and only a few blocks from a dozen great shops and restaurants. The room was clean with excellent facilities. It was quiet and peaceful with a friendly staff. Couldn't recommend it more.
Very comfortable stay, beds were comfortable and clean, housekeeping did a great job each day tidying up the room. Location was great as it was a quiet area but had all the stores/restaurants you'd need nearby with convenient transport links to all over the city. Staff were also great, the woman who checked me in gave me tons of helpful advice for my stay in SF.
I spent most of my time away from the room and only used it to sleep. The room I was in had a queen size bed with just enough room to walk around it. The hotel is in an old building with a lot of shift in it so the walls and floors are sloping and wavy in many areas. Parking is a pain as there is no dedicated parking area. Plan ahead and good luck with that!
