Description

Begin your journey at 850 Marina Boulevard along SF's northern waterfront where your local guide, Lisa, will give you an overview of your afternoon for this off-the-beaten path, small-group tour. Walk through the main promenade of the beautiful Palace of Fine Arts while learning about the important role it played in celebrating San Francisco's resurgence. Find peace from the busy city streets as you explore the sidewalks and secret trails of the Presidio including multiple photo-worthy views of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, the famous Yoda fountain, the beauty of Tunnel Top Park, the grandeur of the National Cemetery and lesser-known pet cemetery, and art tucked away in the woods. Get a glimpse of the mansions in the west side's private enclave and learn about the drama from its inception to present day. As we wander the surrounding neighborhood, understand the battles over housing and street structure that fuel ongoing conflict and shape the San Francisco of the future. Ending in a local-favorite, truly-SF neighborhood (what locals call 'the real Chinatown') with plenty of food and drink options for after the tour. Get top tips from your guide on other authentic San Francisco experiences to make your visit unique. She has seen it all and can help you discover the best San Francisco for you. We’ll cover about 5 miles and 450 feet of elevation gain over gradual hills at a moderate pace with lots of opportunities for photos. Good walking shoes and layers are all you'll need. Start and end points are easily accessible by SF Muni public transit. There are water fountains and restrooms available along the route. Your guide, Lisa, had a first career as a design leader with a background in architecture and urban planning with side roles in public service (as an elected official!), advocacy, and dry humor. She's been exploring San Francisco by foot and public transit for more than a decade. She's run every neighborhood (you have to in a 7x7 city when marathon training!), and discovered a million gems along the way. She's been traveling the world since her parents could no longer stop her – 40+ countries so far – from sipping wine in Slovenia to surfing down a volcano in Nicaragua to taking in the best of Italy’s art. She knows how to make your travel experience unique.
