Dreamforce had consumed virtually every available room in San Francisco, so I landed at the Phoenix Hotel out of necessity. What began as a work trip compromise became a terrific discovery. The Phoenix is a two-story 1950s motor court on the edge of the Tenderloin, with rooms arranged around a central courtyard and swimming pool. The street outside could feel a little seedy, but inside the gates, the property was colorful, cared for, and unmistakably cool. My room had clearly been refreshed and was much better executed than I expected. The lone exception was the extremely soft Casper mattress, which I already knew from home would do the same thing to my back. I am fairly certain I ended up sleeping on the floor. That was a very personal incompatibility rather than an indictment of the room, which was otherwise clean, comfortable, and well designed. Philz Coffee was just down the street, providing another distinctly San Francisco ritual each morning. More than anything, the Phoenix felt like an institution. Its pool-centered motel layout and decades of rock-and-roll history gave it an identity that could not have been manufactured by a conventional lifestyle brand. It was also a genuinely good value during one of the city's most difficult weeks for hotel inventory. After a planned closure, I was delighted to learn that new ownership kept the Phoenix open in 2026 and was committed to preserving its traditions. That feels entirely appropriate for a hotel with this name, and I am glad its story is continuing. The Phoenix had character before I arrived, and it leaves with an even stronger final impression.

Stayed here for pride 2026 with my friends. Would highly recommend this hotel! We had a very comfortable stay. The rooms were perfect and the hotel felt very safe! The area surrounding is a bit rough but the hotel was an oasis and safe space in comparison! Paid parking overnight is highly recommended if you have a car! Hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. Also would like to highlight that the bed was incredibly comfortable. Alex at the front desk was very helpful and friendly!

Stayed here for one night while visiting SF for a film festival and the staff was beyond warm and kind! A gentleman at the front desk (I believe his name was Orlando), upon finding out I was visiting for having a film at the film festival - was kind enough to surprise us with a bottle of champagne in our room! It was such a sweet and kind gesture that really moved us. This is a beautiful and very secure hotel that you can tell is maintained with such warmth, care and good vibes. The staff is all so friendly with a great attitude - and I only wish I would’ve brought my swimsuit - the pool area looked like so much fun! I’ll definitely be back! 🤗

This hotel is secluded and relaxing. Walls surround the hotel and private. I stayed here once in 2022 and loved it so much. The beds are very comfortable and i will be there this year. I highly recommend staying here if you enjoy your privacy and nobody is allowed to go into the main walk way unless you are staying there. At night the lighting makes it so romantic.
