We had a great time at this hotel. It’s a little rough around the edges, but you would be too if you were close to 100 years old! The beds and pillows were super comfortable, which is a rarity for me to say about any hotel. It was also super quiet- that’s what you get from real plaster walls and ceilings. The hill it was on it was a total bear… luckily the famous street car was right there to enjoy! I’d love to stay here again.

I had mixed feelings about my stay at the InterContinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco. The highlight of the property was definitely Top of the Mark. It’s a beautiful restaurant/bar with incredible views of the city. That said, if you’re expecting to walk around and take in the entire panoramic view, that’s not really possible because most of the windows are surrounded by occupied tables. We also stayed at the hotel itself, and honestly, it was pretty mid. The rooms felt old, were very compact, and had a slightly musty smell. The valet service was also incredibly expensive. To make matters worse, I accidentally left something in my car, and since the valet parks vehicles about 10–12 blocks away, it took over an hour to get my car back just so I could retrieve one item. My boyfriend has IHG Platinum status, so we received the complimentary continental breakfast without it, it would have been $60 per person. Without a doubt, that was the best part of our stay. The breakfast buffet was absolutely phenomenal—the best hotel buffet breakfast I’ve ever had, with a huge selection and excellent quality. Overall, the breakfast and Top of the Mark were memorable, but the hotel itself didn’t live up to the reputation or price. Personally, I’d rather stay at a Holiday Inn Express, where I’ve had more comfortable rooms and a better overall value.

Great location, just a few blocks from Chinatown. Top of the Mark on the top floor does a lovely job with cocktails and appetizers. There was live music and dancing. Breakfast at the restaurant was good. Service is excellent. Everything is clean and beautiful. The only downside: it is an old building so in room amenities like mini bar and a/c aren't there but we didn't really miss them. Be prepared for hills in every direction.

I enjoyed my stay but it should be noted that this beautiful, opulent hotel is in need of renovations and better up keep. The doors and windows are of heavy, substantial quality. There is lovely crown and panel molding, as well as wainscotting and polished marble floors throughout the hotel. The high ceilings and solarium glass are beautiful. However, there are enough scuffs, dings, scrapes, dust in corners and torn wallpaper to remind you that this establishment is not at her prime. Our dark wood bathroom vanity had substantially noticeable wear exposing the light wood underneath. Our carpet was lumpy, needing a re-stretch. The front of the hotel was under construction with scaffolding but, at least they are addressing that need. I didn't see any signs of renovations in the interior. Again, a lovely, quality esthetic here in need of some TLC. Staying in the historic Hill area was fascinating! Seeing the trolly stop as well as the water from our room was delightful. As long as you are aware of the state of things here you will not be disappointed but if you are expecting perfection, you should be prepared to pay more and book elsewhere.

As someone who has worked in the hospitality industry before, I wanted to share my honest review of our stay. First, the historical character of the hotel is truly unique, and the location is excellent. There are so many things to do within a short distance, making it a great place to experience Nob Hill and the surrounding areas of San Francisco. Our stay was from 5/8–5/9 for two nights. We booked a Double City View room for our family of four, and it was more than sufficient for our needs. The beds were comfortable, the room was well maintained, and the city view at night was amazing. A special thank you as well to the hardworking housekeeping team for keeping everything in great condition throughout our stay. The bell staff and valet attendants were very kind, professional, and accommodating. The front desk concierge team was consistently attentive and helpful during our visit. A special thank you to Maletina, San (if I remembered the name correctly), and the other gentleman at the front desk whose names I unfortunately cannot recall. All of you were polite, welcoming, and genuinely friendly. Please keep up the great work. Service alone earns this hotel 5 stars. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a true historic San Francisco experience. The prestige and character of Nob Hill’s past and present still feel very much alive here. We look forward to returning soon.
