Overall a great stay — this was actually my first time staying in a hostel, and Chapter SF made for a solid introduction. The place is generally clean, though the linens and blanket in my premium cabin had a slight smell, like they hadn't been freshly laundered — not terrible, just noticeable. The bathrooms, on the other hand, were well-maintained. I'd say the premium cabin is worth it for a night or two, but I wouldn't recommend it for a longer stay unless you're really on a budget. There's a nice lounge with a full kitchenette, and the coded door locks for both the building and your own pod are a great safety touch. My only other gripe: no personal trash bin in the room/pod, so you have to carry trash out to the hallway each time — a small inconvenience. Aside from that, it's a solid choice for a short stay.
Great stay overall, it felt like a capsule-style setup with good privacy and very comfortable beds. Everything was clean and well maintained, including the kitchen and rooms, though bathrooms were a bit limited per floor. Check-in was super smooth with a pre check-in and you get a main door and room codes for easy access. Good location too, would definitely recommend it :)
Excellent accommodations! This hostel is truly a 'little habitat of humanity' with a very nice common area. Everything is well-organized for guest comfort at Chapter, and I especially enjoyed spending time in the community room; which has a well equipped kitchen. The entire place is clean and accommodating. The shared bathrooms are always spotless, and the shower rooms are modern and clean with plenty of hot water!
I highly recommend this hostel! The location is great, it’s tucked away from the sketchier parts of town and is close enough to Japantown to make grabbing a bite to eat super easy. The pod-style beds provide excellent soundproofing and light blocking, making it very easy to fall asleep. Every room has soundproofed walls and doors; even in a room right next to the bathroom, I couldn't hear anyone using a hairdryer. I was incredibly impressed by that!
This was my first time staying in a a hostel and it was a great experience. From checkin, baggage storage to checkout, the process was smooth and communication was super efficient. I never felt unsafe and the facilities were always clean. The environment was also very friendly especially the lounge interactions with other guests. The guests were also very respectful of the rules regarding quiet time. The location was also very ideal for access to public transportation and overall on foot exploration. I will definetly reccomend The Chapter San Francisco to other female solo travelers.
