The Academy is a fun, social, inclusive, and safe space for all. They've managed to strike the right balance of memorable and varied events and creating a place where members, visitors, and guests can relax and enjoy it.
Dear All at The Academy, at this point in my long and happy life, I have only ever had few times at The Academy, but they have all been enriching and fun. I am one who wishes I had discovered The Academy much sooner, or perhaps that it had been in existence much longer ago. I hardly attend events of any kind at my age (86), but when I do, it is ALWAYS an unfailingly joyous occasion, and I go home feeling uplifted and happy to be living the life I am privileged to live, the life I love. The Academy itself, with its various venues, is such a wonderful and safe and beautifully decorated venue. It is serene, it is not hyper or noisy. The people who work there, who run the establishment, are class acts. I LOVE The Academy, and wish I could attend much more often. I HAVE sent many of my friends and acquaintances over there to do that for me. A personal big thanks to Nate and Paul, and all who keep that place running smoothly and efficiently. The Academy truly is a social club like no other. It’s such a welcoming and inclusive space for San Francisco’s LGBTQ+ community and allies, and from the moment you walk in, it feels like home. The staff has been absolutely amazing — especially the two cofounders, Paul and Nate; manager Alonzo; and the entire front-of-house team, including Sky and Jess, who always make everyone feel cared for and appreciated. A special shoutout as well to the wonderful David, who gives me my monthly haircut as part of our membership — such an incredible perk! My husband and I have been members for a year now, and we highly recommend joining. We’ve made so many meaningful new friendships and genuinely love all the weekly programs and events they offer. The sense of community here is truly something special. If you’re looking for a place where you can connect, belong, and feel supported, Academy Social Club is it.
I came here for a friend's surprise party. The venue is lovely and well decorated her reserved party was held on the first floor and lower level. The lowered level is a small cozy bar area that is darkly lit. It gives speak easy vibes which I adore. The lower level leads out to a large back yard patio space that has ample seating. The staff was very patient and friendly as some of the hallways are tight and sometimes there was a wait to pass someone. I know there are more floors and things to see here but those spaces were fr member access only. I hope to return here again. It was a lovely party space and the food was very good.
