Disappointing family stay – Great location, but terrible comfort and safety issues I stayed here for 4 nights with my family, and unfortunately, it was a very stressful experience. The Bad: Awful sleep quality: The first room had an incredibly uncomfortable, worn-out mattress. The walls are paper-thin, so you can hear everything. Our second room was right next to a noisy family. Room change & service: When we requested a room change due to the bed, we were told the hotel was fully booked. I followed up with a formal email to finally get moved the next day. Also, there was no housekeeping service during our entire stay. Safety & Environment: The area outside is filled with noise, bad smells, and felt unsafe. On our first day, a homeless person was exposing himself right outside the entrance. Cancellation & Penalty: When we asked to cancel our remaining nights because we felt unsafe, we were informed about a 1-night cancellation penalty policy. However, after we explained that we wanted to leave specifically due to the safety issues and the incident with the person exposing himself, management offered us a discount so we would stay. The Good: The rooms themselves were clean, and the location is excellent for getting around. While we appreciated that they eventually gave us a discount for two nights and moved us to another room (though it smelled heavily of disinfectant), the street environment and the lack of comfort ruined the trip. I would not recommend staying here if you are traveling with family or looking for a restful night.
Stay at Hotel Mithila in San Francisco was disappointing. The room was very poorly insulated — you could hear outside noise as well as neighbors above and next door, even normal conversations, which made it very difficult to sleep. That said, the room did match the photos, and the cleanliness was excellent. It was acceptable for one night when passing through.
The good points: - Location was prime for those without a car; it was near a convenience store, public transport, cafés, and fast food restaurants. - Relatively quiet, given the location. - Room was adequate for our needs - we were simply sleeping for the nights we were there, and spending our days exploring the city. - Property had the charm of old-timey San Fran; it was a novelty. - Front desk was quick and easy, no complaints about service. The bad points: - Room reeked of cigarettes - it took a whole day of the bathroom exhaust fan being on to get rid of the stench. - Location was also not favourable for its surrounding tweaker community. Could not tell if the faeces outside the front entrance was from a dog or a human - both were strong possibilities. - A bit on the expensive side given the state of the property, but I guess this is the median price for San Francisco properties? I personally would be okay to stay here again, but I wouldn't spend my waking hours in the rooms here.
If you’re looking for a really affordable room in sf then this is the spot for you. The room did exactly what it needed to do for us and was really worth the cost we paid for it. My friend and I booked a single queen sized room. It’s definitely small in there and luckily I was the only one with a suitcase. We were two girls staying there and the area isn’t the safest part of SF (a street or two from the tenderloin) but if you only plan on being out in the day time or have some form of protection, it shouldn’t be a problem. Pretty quiet area. Just be aware of your surroundings and mind your own business if you see anyone else out. Also, be prepared though if you need to park your car. The hotel does not have their own parking and structures nearby were valet. Once you get in the hotel, I felt very safe and comfortable. You need to be buzzed in or have a key to enter which gave me peace of mind. The rooms were nicer than I thought they’d be and you can tell that these rooms have been upgraded, especially the bathroom. It felt really clean and relatively newer, modern tiles. Even though both rooms were small, the shower was decently spacious. The walls were kind of thin so you could hear when guests were returning back to their rooms or closing doors, but at night it didn’t last very long. The bathroom is a sliding door, so it sounded like someone was knocking at my window while I was trying to sleep (which was less unsettling once I figured that out).
