We had such a great stay at Hotel G! Shoutout to Irene at the front desk. She made us feel welcome right as we walked in and it set the tone for our stay. Thank you to her and the hotel for acknowledging our expediaVIP status. The hotel and our room were clean which is what I care about the most when staying at any hotel. Most of the complaints I see from others like the basic room with bare floors and 7pm guest check actually made us feel cleaner and safer. The area was also great. Close to Union Square, Macy's, and the iconic Cable Car stops which took us down to Fisherman's wharf!! Overall would recommend!
Great location, bed was super soft and comfortable, room was spacious enough to fit at least three suitcases. Water dispenser is available but only on the 2nd floor, so even though i'm glad i dont have to keep buying bottled water or drinking tap water, it's just a bit annoying to go downstairs every couple of hours Front desk staff is a hit-or-miss... They all get the job done but some were super friendly and helpful, some were a bit snappy. Discounted parking is available when you book from their own website; they basically borrow the hotel next door's parking space but it's nice that it's a valet service. I read a lot of the review saying that the interior is old and run down; as a visiting tourist from abroad i'd say that the aged look is part of the "western" charm!
Staff are very friendly, but the hotel is tired and run down. It’s ok for no frills. Bedlinen ok and good room size with bath. This hotel insisted I pay for 3 nights minimum, the city tax they also made me pay for 2 people when I was 1 person staying 2 nights. They could not send a receipt even after check out as it had to be after the 3rd night that I didn’t need… so in all not very flexible
Marketed as a luxury boutique, priced like one, and not even close in reality. I paid over $600 a night with fees during a convention week and was put in a room that looked nothing like the listing. Heads up if you book the lowest rate: it doesn't let you choose a room, so when the hotel is full you can end up in a small interior room facing an airshaft, with a window AC unit and wire-mesh security glass, instead of the bright rooms with nice floors and views in the photos. It's also noisy. There's no real soundproofing, so you hear the street and the building all night. As a woman traveling alone, I didn't feel comfortable in the area after dark and avoided leaving the hotel in the evening. I was uneasy even around 6pm. Worth knowing if you'll be coming and going on your own. The room wasn't dirty, but the upkeep was rough for the price: thickly painted-over and chipped trim, worn and scuffed floors, debris on the floor. I've stayed in genuinely luxurious hotels for less than this, which made $600+ for this room sting. Location near Union Square is convenient and the higher room categories may match the marketing. But don't book the cheapest 'room assigned at check-in' rate expecting the photos. Posting mine so you can judge the gap yourself.
A longtime guest of Hotel G, especially given my office is just across the way in Union Square, it’s become the perfect fit for my stays in SF. The rooms are clean, modern and functional, with a low-key atmosphere that feels both comfortable and welcoming. What really stands out, though, is the staff. Everyone is warm, accommodating, and genuinely helpful. A special shoutout to the hotel manager, Ricardo, who went above and beyond to help coordinate my stay during a small personal emergency! All in all, Hotel G is a fantastic no-fuss stay with a great team behind it.
